Save Ecuador’s Animals (SAE) is a new nonprofit 501 c 3 organization dedicated to supporting the rescue and rehabilitation of South American animals from illegal or unhealthy situations. To this end SAE raises money to support animal reserves in South America. Currently, SAE is helping to fund a new reserve, Merazonia, located in Mera, Ecuador.

Animal rescue centers in South America are desperately under funded, relying on the support of volunteers and dedicated, resourceful individuals to care for the thousands of animals that have been rescued from illegal trade and abuse. Funding for animal protection is often not a priority for South American governments, and thus organizations rely on ingenuity and the generosity of caring individuals. Often the majority of funding for animal rescue centers comes from volunteer fees, which can be a volatile source of revenue.
